“PARADIGMS of LUMINESCENCE” DECEMBER 6, 2013 – JANUARY 25, 2014
German Expressionist artist Franz Marc declared, “Today we are searching for things in nature that are hidden behind the veil of appearance... We look for and paint this inner, spiritual side of nature.” Following this credo, artist Else Korpi creates luminescent painted glass hanging reliefs with evanescent expressionist compositions inspired by nature. The artist transcends the requirements of everyday reality to create a world without time, without limits, and with endless space. Created with melted glass, her nature and animal scenes are suspended in space and are structurally spontaneous and powerfully imaginative. Her compositions are replete with intense colors and rich textures that metamorphose into lines and forms where she synthesizes the perfect aesthetic environment where animals and nature are combined with color and movement.
Ms. Korpi creates a new artistic vision reflecting dynamic, swirling galaxies of the animal kingdom. Her animals are placed within a color-field abstract space reminiscent of natural habitats, guiding viewers to zone in on the whimsical anthropomorphic features of the powerful creatures. Each work has its own strong gravitational pull, with different color choices and styles of application creating an incredible layering of contrasting forms that reach a captivating harmony. Electrifying hues sweep through her tableaux allowing her to metaphorically express her emotions and thoughts through a brilliant color palette which imbues the work with a rich, ebullient textural effect. Dynamically swirling into the interior space, there is an exciting interplay of light which further intensifies an emotional sense. She unearths the boundless energy and vitalizing spirituality of nature through her animal inspired glass artworks, reinterpreting the animal kingdom as opulently colored compositions. Ms. Korpi presents a spiritual relation between our society and nature, showing that each kingdom is bound together and continues to be equals in the contemporary world.
Award-winning artist Else Korpi works and resides in Ostrobothnia, Finland. Celebrated both abroad and in the U.S., she exhibits her mesmerizing glass artwork internationally. Saksalainen expressionisti Franz Marc julisti, "Tänään etsimme luonnosta asioita, jotka on piilotettu ulkomuodon verhon taakse... Me etsimme ja maalaamme tämän luonnon sisäisen, henkisen puolen." Seuraten tätä uskomusta, artisti Else Korpi luo valoa heijastavia sulatuslasisia reliefejä luonnon inspiroimalla häipyvällä expressionistisella olemuksella. Artisti ylittää jokapäiväisen realismin rajat luoden ajattoman, rajattoman ja loputtoman maailman. Hänen sulatuslasista valmistamansa luonto - ja eläinkuvaukset irtoavat tilasta ja ovat rakenteeltaan omaehtoisia sekä voimakkaan mielikuvituksellisia. Hänen asettelunsa ovat täynnä näitä värejä ja rikkaita rakenteita, jotka muuttuvat linjoiksi ja muodoiksi, joissa hän yhdistää täydellisen esteettisen ympäristön, jossa eläimet ja luonto yhdistyvät väriin ja liikkeeseen.
Korpi luo uuden artistisen vision heijastaen eläinkunnan dynaamisia ja pyörteisiä galaxeja. Hänen eläimensä on asetettu luonnollista elinympäristöä muistuttavalle abstraktille värikentälle, ohjaten katsojat tutustumaan näiden voimakkaiden olentojen leikkisän antromorfisiin piirteisiin. Jokaisella työllä on oma vetovoimansa. Erilaisten väri -ja tyylivalintojen kautta ne luovat mahtavan kontrastisten muotojen kerrostuman, jotka saavuttavat vangitsevan harmonian. Sävähdyttävät vivahteet pyyhkäisevät läpi hänen kuvauksistaan, antaen hänen ilmaista tunteitaan ja ajatuksiaan metaforisesti vaikuttavan väripaletin kautta, joka täyttää työn rikkaalla ja riemukkaalla rakenteellisella efektillä. Jännittävä valon vuorovaikutus, joka dynaamisesti kietoutuu sisätilaan, tehostaa edelleen tuota herkkää tunnetta. Hän kaivaa esiin luonnon ehtymättömän energian ja elinvoimaisen hengellisyyden näillä eläimistä vaikutteensa saanneilla lasitöillään, uudelleentulkiten eläinten valtakuntaa runsaasti väritetyillä asetelmillaan. Korpi esittää henkisen yhteyden yhteiskuntamme ja luonnon välillä osoittaen, että molemmat ovat toisiinsa sidottuja ja tulevat aina olemaan tasavertaisia nykymaailmassa.
Palkittu artisti, Else Korpi työskentelee ja asuu Pohjanmaalla, Suomessa. Hänen töitään on esillä sekä ulkomailla että Amerikassa.
